Chargebacks can arise when a cardholder (your customer) disputes a payment made on their credit or debit card and initiates a refund from their card issuer. There are a several reasons why chargebacks can arise but typically the card holder says:

  • They did not make or authorise the transaction. This could be due to simply forgetting what the transaction was for; or due to the unauthorised (fraudulent) use of their card
  • They claim they did not receive the goods or services they bought
  • They claim the goods or services were not as described
  • They claim the goods or services were faulty or damaged
