Rothwell Harriers & Jane Tomlinson Appeal 2017 – Canal Run

Rothwell Harriers

Rothwell Harriers, the Leeds based running club, has announced the launch of its popular of Canal Run on Tuesday 4th July 2017. The Canal Run, which includes two 5k races and a 1.5 mile fun run attracts runners from all around Leeds, West Yorkshire and beyond.

The Run is being organised on behalf of charity, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. Jane Tomlinson was a Rothwell Harrier herself and there continues to be a strong association between the club and the charity set-up in her name.

The event is being sponsored by local payments business, Nochex, which is also providing the club with an online service to enable people to register for the race and pay their entrance fees over the internet.

Each runner will receive a medal for taking part, and 5k runners receive a specially designed kitbag and tech t-shirt. The 5k races are limited to 400 people, and the fun run to 200 people. Places are filling up fast, and interested runners have been encouraged to sign up on the Rothwell Harriers website.

Traditionally, the Harriers collected entry fees in person, with most fees being received on the day payed in cash. This process was acceptable when there was just a small number of runners, but as the event became more popular, an alternative solution was needed, providing the organisers with more time to run the event more smoothly.

Fortunately, one regular Harrier, Andrew Baiden, is also the Chief IT Manager at local online payments provider Nochex. Having worked with a variety of clubs for many years, Mr Baiden was well attuned to understanding what clubs like Rothwell Harriers need when they organise an event like the Canal Run.

Nochex has developed an easy to navigate membership and payments method called JoinUP, with a registration page that allows club members to enter their personal details, select the race they want to enter, and pay an entry fee – a simple 3 step process.

Within the first week of launching the new signup page, over 180 people had entered online, and places have been filling up fast!

“As a member of the club myself, I am really pleased that we have decided to support both the Rothwell Harriers and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. We are actively engaging with sports and athletics clubs around the West Yorkshire region to raise as much money for the charity as possible, and are looking to support the community in any way we can.” Andrew Baiden
